After the Flood

A week ago the Yellowstone brought us to our knees.

The water is definitely still high but not wiping out houses and bridges. So many people lost so much. The fact that not one person died is a miracle and a testimony to the rescue workers. Our town has come together to help one another in a way that makes us all grateful and proud.

Our differences fall by the wayside when survival is at stake.

Honestly, nothing will ever be quite the same here. It was a cataclysmic event. Not everyone's house went down the river but we all know it could happen.

I keep looking around mystified by how beautiful the mountains and fields are. Part of it is that we have had so much rain. But it is as if there is an electric charge to this calmness. To these cloudy and fascinating skies.

And at the moment the Yellowstone looks like the Mississippi.
