I tagged along with some folks who were touring in to do some back country skiing in the Lamar. Hanging out in my car and painting--I was so happy to be there. Getting to watch the swirling, rapidly changing sky and trying to get it down in paint as fast as I could, was exhilarating.
Living this close to Yellowstone Park and seldom experiencing it, feels shortsighted and wasteful of a golden opportunity. This Painting a Week project incentivizes rewarding and joyful experiences.
Interestingly, I didn't completely finish this painting on site. That was not a problem because it is completely etched in my brain exactly how it looked and felt there.
Just down the road are herds of buffalo. The skiers saw wolves. All under a churning broiling sky that got everyone's rapt attention.
