Floating the River

I love getting out on the Yellowstone. Who doesn't? It is really sublime. I found myself getting cranky and anxious and I swear to God; that mood is just gone. Two hours on the river and my mind is refreshed and unfettered. Highly recommend.

In lieu of that, maybe I can translate some of it for you. Using water dipped from the river, breath from the ambiance, and my brush as a wand, abra cadabra! you are there.

The river is its own world. We conjured up beaver in a reminiscence, and they appeared. The sunset was pink and apricot. There was a moment when the sky turned crimson just as we were floating by the osprey family silhouetted perfectly in their nest.

On paper in watercolor, an amalgamation of the evening on the Yellowstone River. From Carter's Bridge to Mayer's Landing.

We call it the town stretch.

It didn't hurt that the company was upbeat and beloved.

In these dog days of summer the waterways offer relief and renewal.
