The air has a quality right now that feels at once clean and benign. We have had so much rain and so many cool mornings that green is still dominant as if it were spring.
The pinky red color in this painting is from an ancient aztec recipe. Cochineal red. I've mixed it with some other colorant to mitigate the fugitive aspect, although of course, watercolor should never be displayed in direct sunlight.
I am of the opinion that you should always use the best materials you possibly can. Expense in paint is primarily related to the density of the pigment. This paint derives its expense from the romance of history.
I shook a little fairy dust. The beetles did their magic. It is good to remember how we artists come by our tools.
