This past February I had a painting show at The Danforth Museum here in Livingston, Montana. So Post Modernist of me to do a painting of my own paintings!
It has taken me a few weeks to completely process the experience.
Being an artist is a continuum. The group of paintings I showed at the Danforth illustrates that perfectly. They are large plein air paintings of Montana rivers. It started with a show at the University of Montana Western in Dillon. I added more paintings of rivers and the show moved to Livingston. Recently, I have been studying maps and doing some exploratory sojourns, expanding my search area to paint more rivers throughout the state.
These Painting a Week paintings are 8" x 10". The larger River Trip pieces are 36" x 48" with some put together as diptychs and triptychs.
I am developing a plan of attack and I think some of my painting a week paintings going forward will reflect what I am embarked on. This painting of paintings on the wall is the first one related to the series. Watch for new rivers. This one was the Shields. With a little watercolor going around the corner of the Yellowstone.
