I painted this at Grey Owl fishing access in Paradise Valley, sitting right by the water. You can launch a boat there. The river is deep. We've had a wet spring and these days are no exception. A storm came up while my friend and I were painting. We knew with that sound and quick rise of wind, it could be intense. We packed up.
I went back twice to finish and each time the weather threatened enough to keep me away from my river-front perch. Third time's the charm.
Ironically, there was still the same unsettled sky, but I caught it when rain and wind had abated. It was strangely cold and I was glad I had a down coat in tow. The water, that had been snow a few hours before, flowed by with branches which had been laying on an embankment earlier that day.
The river is high and murky. But the cold weather is helping slow things down.
Good spring so far.
