Lincoln School Sunflowers

There are so many reasons to love sunflowers. They are honestly so damn cheerful. In spite of whatever cares might beleaguer a body, one almost cannot help but bask in their glory at least a little bit. Birds love them. They give us a light oil with a sweet flavor. They are abundant. Easy to grow.

As an artist observing them closely, each concentric circle of seeds radiates a kind of symmetry that is appealing. Especially in times of chaos. Each leaf is beautiful. Each petal. Each emerging flower. And beautiful in death. They are tough.

There are lessons here.

8"x10" oil on board.
