Lilac season in Livingston on a good year like this one, has the whole town smelling sweet.
These flowers simply love to grow here.
There are variations on the theme from deep purple to white. The leaves are gorgeous all the time and we almost always get flowers. But some years, like this one, it is a virtual riot of color and scent. The white ones are the most fragrant usually, but there are gradations, and individual particularities. While they all smell marvelous to me and there are other sweet smelling blooms around now too, there really does seem to be specific, individual characteristic and olfactory sensations emanating from different plants.
Nirvana, right now thy name is Livingston. And this lilac, right outside my back door is certainly one of the best.
