Sheep Mountain

Sheep Mountain is a stand alone landmark that is almost mythical in our neighborhood. It changes color as the light turns and depending on the angle of the sun versus the angle of observation, your attention becomes drawn to completely different aspects. Sometimes it seems to emanate light itself, other times it is dark and menacing.

Searching for a good spot to paint from, I had gotten permission to access a ranch directly across the river but, honestly, it was best seen (at least that day) from the county road. Sometimes I drive and drive hoping to get a better view of something, only to discover that the original vantage point that sparked my inspiration really was best.

On this day there was that rare parallel that totally reminds me of being by the ocean. We are landlocked by thousands of miles, but on that day I could swear the ocean was just beyond the horizon.
